Bob Iger insists that Disney focuses on original films, but is it?

A glance at the list of films announced from Walt Disney Studios – including live divisions and Disney animation divisions, Plus Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th century studios, research images, etc. – Will tell you a few things. The biggest is that the next slate is looking strongly Towards the consequences, restarts, remakes and new entries in well -known series, which the CEO of the company, Bob Iger, seemed to bed during a recent call of results.
“I would not say that we have a priority in one way or another,” according to Wrap reports, in response to a question of whether the studio is based or not on original or familiar titles. “Our priority is to publish great films that ultimately resonate with consumers, and the more we can find and develop an original property, the better.”
But while IGER understands the value of “creating a new intellectual property”, it is not about to turn your back on the popular existing IP of Disney. He recognized that the consequences and films which “move (existing IP) in a more modern way, as we did, or convert what was previously the animation in live action … It is just an excellent opportunity for the company and supports our franchises.”
He used live action Moanadue in 2026, for example. This particular series rises at the top after the successful animation of 2024 Moana 2An achievement was even more impressive because it was originally intended to be a Disney + project rather than a theatrical version. This is the positive focal point perfect for Disney shareholders, the public of today’s profits.
That said, it can be a little unfair to take a look at Disney’s future calendar, which is filled with well -known intellectual property, and to declare that Disney does not make an effort to create original films. Most films, the studio dates well in advance – next Tron: Ares At Avatar sequels, The Mandalorian and the Grogu,, Toy story 5,, Frozen IIIand the next Avengers The films – are these great franchise films that will benefit from the excitement of fans, even years in advance. And it is not an absolute secret priority of Disney is to earn money, like all other Hollywood studios.
To have a real feeling of knowing whether Iger says or not the truth, you would need to have time in the future a few years, then look back all the titles that have been published over time. There may be more original films than we think. However, we should also note that Iger’s definition of what constitutes “original” is not what you could expect. Like, let’s say, The Fantastic Four: First steps.
He is aware that other studios have done Fantastic Four Films before, of course. But also: “We somehow consider the one we have made an original property in many ways, because we present these characters to people who do not know them at all.”
Monsieur… It’s a restart. You have restarted. What do you make of Iger’s comments concerning Disney’s priorities in the production of original films?
