California beloved octopus showed off with love and farewell when she spends the last days to take care of eggs

Ghost The giant Pacific octopus has been a viral sensation since arriving at the Pacific aquarium in California last summer.

But these days, she leads a quieter life – although, tender of wishes and farewell love of worshipers.

Ghost is dying. The octopus is in its last phase of life, known as the senescence, taking care of the eggs it laid last week. The average lifespan for this octopus is around three to five years.

“It’s quite wild. They have up to 100,000 eggs, which is incredible,” he said. “Only about one percent or less of these newborns will actually survive.”

Ghost eggs are not, however, fertilized and will never hatch.

In the waters of British Columbia, where the ghost comes from, the giant Pacific octopuses live alone and only meet to reproduce. Jaros says that male and female octopuses did not naturally coexist; They don’t get along.

“They are at high risk of aggression or even potentially death,” he said.

Despite his solitary trends, Ghost is not without friends – at least the kind of mammals. When she arrived at the aquarium in May 2024, the three -pound cephalopod then quickly captured the hearts of her managers for her character “Spunky”, “outgoing”, says Jaros.
