Canada will not move away from the challenges of an increasingly complex world, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Ananda Ananda Ananda Ananda Ananda Anita Anita on Monday.

“When multilateral institutions are threatened, Canada will not turn inward,” said Anand in a speech that has melted humanitarian and security problems with Ottawa to guarantee foreign investment.

“We will work towards a world where prosperity is shared, security is collective and peace is sustainable. It is the commitment of Canada at that time of geopolitical challenge and change.”

Anand also said that Canada wanted to be part of the creation of lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

“We support partners in the region who are continuing their efforts to reach a cease-fire as soon as possible and to contribute to the political processes that must follow,” she said. “Canada will participate in these processes in any way possible.”

Anand’s speech came before the news that American president Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had accepted a plan to end the War of Israel-Hamas and had presented the agreement to Hamas.

In an interview with the Canadian press following her speech, Anand said that Canada could try to sell a peace plan to her peers.

After 80 years, is the UN still relevant?

While the United Nations begins its 80th session, the international organization is faced with difficult questions about its relevance. For the National, Kris Reyes of the CBC asks: Is the UN still up to its promise to save the future generations of the scourge of war?

“I had several conversations with (Marco Secretary of State) Rubio in last week, on how Canada can play a role in contribution to the peace process,” she said.

“Secretary Rubio specifically asked me to help lead more and more countries.”

She said that she was working with Rubio on shared concerns, such as the end of the Haiti gang crisis, guaranteeing lasting peace in Ukraine and “ensuring that Hamas has no role in the future governance of Palestine”.

Netanyahu accepts the 20 point plan of Trump to end the War of Israel-Hamas

The Israeli Prime Minister says he accepted a peace proposal by Gaza sponsored by the United States. Although Hamas has not yet agreed, the former Canadian Ambassador to Israel calls a “hope” move to end the almost two year war.

Anand’s comments occur a week after Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged that some were looking for Canada to be part of a force to help secure Gaza after the end of the war.

“There are many proposals from various Arab states, a combination of Arab states and European states, which Canada would have left if they were to happen, so that multinational forces were deployed in Palestine, to enforce peace,” said Carney on September 22.

Anand spoke to the UN in the name of Canada instead of Carney, which was initially going to go to the podium in green marble on Monday. Carney was listed in the July written calendar, but was then deleted.

Federal officials told journalists that it was because Carney had events in New York scheduled for the start of the high -level annual week, and that would have forced him to go and then return to say Canada’s speech.

Anand said that Ottawa has three priorities in its foreign policy, the first strengthening defense by the North American aerospace defense command (NORAD) and NATO.

The second priority is economic resilience, with diverse supply chains and making Canada “an attractive destination for international capital”.

She said that Canada’s trade agreements have signed in recent years – both in multi -country blocks and directly with countries like Indonesia last week – are supposed to consolidate a global trade -based trade system that is attacked.

Anand did not name Washington or Beijing as having played a role in the erodation of these systems.

“These are not only trade agreements. These are resilience bridges, prosperity engines and commitments to the rules based on the rules that benefits us throughout multilateralism,” she said.

The third priority is to balance other priorities with fundamental values involving human rights, gender equality, environmental protection and indigenous rights, especially in the Arctic.

Anand defended international agreements, including the 1951 refugee convention that Washington wants to reform to have much more restrictive rules around who can claim asylum.

What Bob Rae thinks that UN criticisms have well – and bad

Outgoing Canadian ambassador Bob Rae told CBC News chief correspondent Adrienne Arsenault, which criticisms are mistaken about the United Nations – and what is to change to maintain the 80 -year -old international organization today.

It also mentioned the Treaty of Ottawa, which has prohibited land mines in most countries, but that several European countries bordering Russia now seek to leave, about the concerns that Moscow will seek more territory.

His speech comes at a time when the UN faces serious reductions, largely due to the reduction of the United States, just as developing countries call for greater influence on agencies dominated by Western powers.

Anand told the Canadian press that her comments on the refugee convention was written before the United States was publicly starting to revise global asylum rules.

It also paid tribute to the podium to the outgoing ambassador of the UN Bob Rae “which provided a whole service of service devoted to our country (and) helped to build these multilateral institutions”, which made the room applauded.

Rae will resign in mid-November after five years in the role. He is replaced by former justice minister David Lametti, who was recently Carney’s principal secretary.
