Celebrations in Luxembourg as the new duke of the sworn crown

The Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg abdicated, handing the throne to his eldest son, Grand Duke Guillaume.

The new Grand Duke has promised to make sure that the monarch turns to the future, saying: “I want to be the Grand Duke who builds bridges between generations, between tradition and innovation.”

His father, who played 25 years in the largely symbolic role, announced that he planned to abdicate at the end of last year, when he delivered his Christmas speech.
