The confusion surrounds the state of Internet connectivity in Afghanistan, after certain networks were apparently restored on Wednesday after a breakdown that started on Monday.

The Associated Press previously reported which claimed to be a Taliban declaration denying information that the power failure was a deliberate decision and saying that the old optical fiber cables are exhausted and replaced.

However, it appeared later that the declaration was false.

The Taliban sometimes communicate with Pakistani journalists through an official WhatsApp group. The false declaration was sent as an individual message to certain members of the group but was not published in the group itself. He came from an Afghan user whose name looked like the official name of the Whatsapp Media group.

The sender has disappeared and their identity cannot be verified. The same declaration was published on the social platform X, but it came from an account managed by a Taliban sympathizer rather than from the Taliban themselves.

Following Internet failure in Afghanistan, it was impossible for the Associated Press to directly call the Taliban spokesperson for more information on the putative repair of the fiber optic cable.

On Wednesday, several hours after the release of the false statement, the Taliban Whatsapp group made its first response to the breakdown, saying that mobile phone services were gradually restored. The Associated Press confirmed with the group’s administrators that the new declaration was authentic.

The declaration cited the managers of the Technical Technical Service saying that the teams concerned are trying to fully restore the services.

The Internet Defense Group Netblocks published on Wednesday an update on X, saying: “Live network data shows the partial restoration of Internet connectivity in #Afghanistan in the middle of an outcry after a two -day national telecommunications failure; the incident occurs while Taliban leadership applies new” immorality “rules on telecommunications operators.

Affected communications

The breakdown was reported on the Internet on Monday Advocacy Group Netblocks, who said that Internet connectivity collapsed across the country, including in the capital, Kabul and telephone services were also affected.

On Wednesday, at least 14 flights planned by Kabul airport were canceled, with the status of other unclear flights, according to data from the Flightradar24 Tracker plane.
