Cousin of Carmel Gat: ‘If Hamas and Netanyahu want to continue fighting, don’t do it at our expense’

Thousands of people converged on southern Israel to mourn the dead as the nation marked two years since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack plunged the region into brutal war, while Israel and Hamas continued with indirect peace talks in Egypt. Tel Aviv’s main memorial, scheduled for later in the evening and organized by the bereaved families, is separate from a ceremony the government will hold on the anniversary next week according to the Hebrew calendar. The split ceremonies reflect deep divisions over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership, many of whom he blames for failing to secure a ceasefire that would free the remaining hostages held by the militants.
