The new indie horror film Trauma Open on a title card informing us of “five forms of infantile trauma”, announcing without subditting what will happen in the next 80 minutes. Then we are in the Egyptian desert, around 1910, looking at a man anxious to bury a figurine of sinister appearance in the sand. It is only then that we arrive in the 21st century, where terrible things are very in progress.

The flashback adds a little context, but it seems useless; A cursed object is an unsuccessful horror trope. The didactic explanation of infantile trauma, however, is certainly useless. Fortunately, Trauma Finally, shows a little more confidence in its audience, offering a story that clearly aims to make you panic and succeeds.

In 2003, in a dilapidated chalet in Pasadena, a little boy by the name of Mikey (Ranan Navat) consists of the 911, and we soon see his abusive “mom”, Abigail (Rebekah Kennedy), has something very bad with her. Like, demonically false. Inside this house, a frequently returned adjustment, Trauma Often almost like a foot film found. Director and Co-Scenarist Pierre Tsigaridis (Two witches) Leans in the strokes of POV and the dark pieces lit by frenzied pocket lamp beams – in this case, while a nervous cop discovers that he was summoned in a very bad place.

Shortly after, we spend a year earlier to fill a few whites; Later, we will spend 20 years in the future to see how these events affected the survivors. TraumaThe quarter -time times serve his themes led to the way in which the trauma of the past continue to injure the people who carry them in the present. The ancient statue makes it a literal concept; It is in a way made from Egypt to the south of California, where it is ready to release a real demon in a family which is already on a fragile field emotionally.

It is the perfect environment for a hell that forces its hosts to abuse the most vulnerable victims in the midst of them, and Trauma Does not retain deeply disturbing images (sexual assault, physical violence, horror of the extreme body) to illustrate this worst case. In addition to that, Trauma Take stab wounds in the creation of a mythology – including a search for an “elected” – but that never completely co -hole.

But just when you start to wonder if Trauma takes a little too seriously, the act three brings a slight slight lightness. In the 2020s, we met the adult version of Abigail’s younger sister, Alice (Emily Goss). Rather than repressing her trauma, Alice kissed her, even writing a successful book on her late sister, who has become a real Boogeyman for her role in what is now known as “The Pasadena Murders”.

Despite her appearance her own career around the notoriety of her family, Alice is mortified To carry out the big television interview, she accepted was woven in a Halloween special. The host, a type of grace nancy played by Susan Gayle Watts, is too delighted to exploit tragedy for the dimensions, opening the way to Trauma To offer additional and more weakened demonstrations, how the SSPT can manifest itself.

Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that as long as there is a free demon, no one can hope to find the closure. In addition, the Halloween frame allows a scene of stuff or strange treatment with ghosts dressed in the most sad sheet since It’s the big pumpkin, Charlie BrownSo the film gets a very scary credit for this.

Trauma is produced by Pierre Tsigaridis, who also co-written with Maxime Rancon. He also features Aj Bowen, Sean O’Bryan and Sean Whalen, and he hits the rooms on September 12.
