Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen summoned the best American diplomat in Copenhagen, following a report that US citizens led “secret influence operations” in Greenland.

Denmark’s public broadcaster, DR, quoted sources saying that the objective was to infiltrate the Greenland company and promote its secession from Denmark in the United States, although he was unable to clarify for whom men worked.

Danish intelligence warned that Greenland was targeted by “various types of influence campaigns”.

Rasmussen said that “any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom (Denmark) will of course be unacceptable”, and the affairs of the United States had been summoned under this light.

The BBC approached the United States Embassy to comment.

However, US President Trump has repeatedly said that he wanted to annex Greenland, an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and vice-president JD Vance accused Copenhagen of subinvesting in the territory.

During a visit to Greenland a few months ago, Danish Prime Minister Put Frederiksen warned the United States that “you cannot annex another country”.

Denmark Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement to the BBC that the government “knew that foreign actors continue to show an interest in Greenland and its position in the Kingdom of Denmark”.

“It is therefore not surprising that we live external attempts to influence the future of the kingdom in the time to come,” he added.

Denmark is a member of NATO and the European Union and has long considered the United States as one of its nearest allies, and the Danes were shocked by Trump’s determination to control its semi-autonomous territory. The American president said this year that he did not exclude seizing him by force.

The Denmark pet security and intelligence service said in its assessment that influenced campaigns would aim to “create a discord in the relationship between Denmark and Greenland”.

This could be done by exploiting “existing or invented disagreements” either with “traditional physical influence agents or by disinformation,” he added. Pet said he had strengthened his presence in Greenland and cooperation with his authorities.

The United States does not currently have an ambassador to Copenhagen, so Rasmussen summoned Mark Stroh, who, as a business charge, is the most high-end diplomat in the Danish capital.

Lars Lokke Rasmussen has already summoned the American ambassador to Denmark this year in response to a separate report in May, which suggests that the spy agencies were invited to concentrate their efforts on Greenland.

On Wednesday, DR’s report gave details on an American visit to the capital of Greenland Nuuk, saying that he was trying to compile a list of Greenlanders who supported American attempts to take control of the island. The goal would be to try to recruit them for a secession movement, said Dr.

The May May report in the Wall Street Journal has also referred to the more learning of the Greenland independence movement, as well as attitudes with regard to American mineral extraction.

At the time, the American director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard did not denote the report but accused the newspaper of “breaking the law and of compromising the security and democracy of our nation”.
