Dick Vitale’s comeback delayed after home accident causes ‘health problems,’ ‘physically weak’


Famous basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale He will not be expected back in the booth next week to call Duke vs. Wake Forest on ESPN after an accident at his home in Florida.

Vitale announced Saturday that he was hospitalized after a fall at his home. In his statement, Vitale said that the incident left him with new memories health problems and physical weaknesses.

“I had an accident at my home in Florida, and that has caused me some health problems and a long-term disability,” Vitale said.

“Now, I’ll just have to wait a little longer. I don’t know when that will happen, but I’m looking forward to my recovery and I’ll provide an update when I have more. , I feel blessed to have the support of my family, friends, and teammates at ESPN.”

Vitale has not called a game in two years as he battles various ailments, including cancer in his statement.

Vitale was diagnosed with melanoma in the summer of 2021, then diagnosed with lymphoma a few months later. He returned at the end of 2021, but later had to leave to undergo surgery on his voice.

Vitale announced in the summer of 2023 that the cancer had spread to his ears, and later to his bone marrow, which left him battling four types of cancer in four years.

He underwent radiation, chemotherapy and more surgery, over the past two years, before being declared cancer-free earlier this month.

However, after his recent fall, Vitale will have to make one more recovery before college basketball fans can hear him calling another game.
