Dozens dreaded after Cloudburst triggered sudden floods

Dozens of people are feared after a huge explosion of clouds have triggered sudden floods in the state of northern Uttarakhand.

The rescue teams, including army staff, are on the way to the village of Dharali in the district of Uttarkashi, which would have brought the weight of the floods.

Videos shared online show a giant water wave gushing in the area, submerging the buildings along the way. A tourist place, Dharali is populated by hotels and restaurants.

“I was informed of a cloud incident in Dharali from Uttarkashi. We are working to save the people,” said Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to local media.

Prashant Arya, the district magistrate of Uttarkashi, says that communication was irregular due to poor connectivity in the region.

“As it is an area populated with many restaurants and hotels, we have sent rescue teams to the site,” he said.
