The manager of Aston Villa Unai Emery says he is “confident” that his team could change his fortune after a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday aggravated a miserable start for his Premier League season.

In a rehearsal of the April semi-final of the FA Cup in Wembley, the Emery team was canceled by the possible victors of Villa Park during a night which saw goals of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Marc Guehi and Ismaila Sarr secure the points for the men of Oliver Glasner.

The result puts misery further on Villa after what was a disappointing start in the countryside; Whoever saw them become the only high -level club not to have marked during their first three outings.

This means that the Emery team, which finished sixth last term, reached the last eight of the Champions League and will play in the Europa League this season, is currently at the second bottom of the table before the international break next week.

Asked his post-match assessment, Emery told Sky Sports: “(I am) frustrated, but we played the first half. We followed the match plan that we were expecting and we dominated the match.

“We had a very good luck with Ollie Watkins. But we were dominant. We have not conceded the corners, we avoid the transitions.

“We made a mistake with the penalty and it was a goal. And of course, it was more difficult.

“I think we started the second half very well. After their second goal, it may be more difficult but the first half and the 20 minutes of the second half, I can’t do anything.”

The boss of the villa admitted that he had felt for the fans during this difficult period, but thinks that his players will firmly put their difficult start -up behind them when they return to domestic action against Everton on September 13.

“Of course, we are frustrated, we are sad for our supporters, but we must accept it. We must be together,” said Emery.

“In the good times when we appreciate it, we were happy. Now we started the first three games (of the season) now, but tomorrow is September 1, the end of the transfer window and I am confident for the following matches after this break.”
