Two of the Premier League’s top teams meet at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton.
These famous clubs have been in shambles these days, and perhaps both clubs see themselves in the others. Two pessimistic fans have been plagued by the 2024/25 campaign so far, although many would argue that Everton are living up to expectations ahead of the season.
Sean Dyche has left the Toffees 16 on the table and are top of the table. David Moyes was named as his replacement, but the returning Scot oversaw a 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa in midweek.
Spurs’ run in the Premier League continued on Wednesday as Arsenal beat the North London Derby 2-1 at the Emirates. Sunday visitors remain rare, but Ange Postecoglou will have to keep an eye on recent exits.
They remain in all cup competitions – the saving grace of Postecoglou – but Spurs’ return to five points from a possible 29 from their previous nine games can be described as a drop.

Everton recently Dwight McNeil and James Garner are also available, but the two are expected to miss Sunday with knee and back issues.
Seamus Coleman has also been struggling with a nerve problem and is a doubt for the Tottenham trip, while strikers Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja are out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could remain at the top despite his disastrous midweek performance. Moyes has Beto as an alternative.
Nathan Patterson could come in for Ashley Young at right-back, with Jesper Lindstrom also pushing to start the attack.
Everton vs Tottenham predictions (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Patterson, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Mangala; Lindstrom, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.
Richarlison came off the bench in the derby after a few months with a hamstring injury. Son Heung-min scored on Wednesday but he hasn’t done well this season, and we’ll soon see the Brazilian emerge as a real option on Postecoglou’s left.
Ben Davies could be back in the squad for Sunday’s game, but Spurs will need to retain a similar defense at Goodison Park. Brennan Johnson is suddenly doubtful with a calf injury.
Wilson Odobert, William Vicar, Christian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Timo Werner are all injured.
Tottenham vs Everton predictions (4-3-3): Kinsky; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.
Can both teams lose?
Moyes’ Everton will not be too different from Dyche’s return, and will remain a difficult team to beat, especially at Goodison. The Toffees would have had a point on Wednesday if Calvert-Lewin returned to his first game of 2020/21 and not the type he has seen since.
Spurs should enjoy control and division here, but they haven’t proven to be adept at locking up against solid defences. Their problems from set pieces have not looked as good compared to last season, but no doubt the hosts will want to dominate in such conditions on Sunday.
All the results are on the table here, but the visitors can walk away with the three points they desperately need.
Prediction: Everton 1-2 Tottenham
