A military base in the American state of Georgia is on locking while the officials are looking for an active shooter.

A Facebook publication of the military base said that the site was locked up at 11:04 a.m. (4:04 pm GMT) and said that “victims were reported”.

It is not known how many people have been shot down or were injured during the Wednesday shooting which took place in Fort Stewart, at 240 miles (386 km) southeast of Atlanta.

“We are currently assessing the situation, but we can confirm an active shooter,” Lieutenant-Colonel Angel Tomko told the Associated Press.

Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, said that he was in “close contact” with the police on the ground.

“We keep the victims, their families and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and our prayers, and we ask Georgians around the world,” he wrote on Twitter.

Congress member, Buddy Carter, whose district includes Fort Stewart, said that he was “monitored the situation”.

“Please join me in prayers for the victims, their families and the courageous agents of the law application working to protect our community,” he wrote on Twitter.
