Forest fires continue to devastate Portugal and Spain, with nearly 300,000 hectares burned in Portugal and more than 400,000 in Spain, marking record seasons for the two countries. In Portugal, the firefighters were injured and several people died, while in demonstrations in Spain broke out for government failures in the prevention and management of fires. Through the EU, more than a million hectares have burned an area larger than Cyprus since January.
