Four Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli strike near the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the broadcaster said.

The correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh and Cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal were in a tent for journalists at the main door of the hospital when he was targeted, reported Al Jazeera.

Fifteen days ago, he condemned the Israeli defense forces (FDI) for what she called an “incentive campaign” against his journalists in Gaza, including Al-Sharif.

Shortly after the strike, the FDIs confirmed that he had struck Anas Al-Sharif, displaying on Telegram that he had “served the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas”.

The FDI did not mention any of the other journalists who were killed. The BBC contacted Al Jazeera to comment.

Al-Sharif, 28, seemed to display on X in the moments before his death, warning of an intense Israeli bombardment in Gaza City.

An article published after his death seems to have been pre-written and published by a friend.

In two graphic videos of the consequences of the strike, which were confirmed by the verification of the BBC, men can be seen bearing the bodies of those who have been killed. Some scream the name of Mohammed Qreiqeh, and a man wearing a press vest says that one of the bodies is that of Anas Al-Sharif.

In July, the media network of Al Jazeera published a statement denouncing the “incessant efforts” of the FDI for an “campaign in the process of incentive targeting the correspondents and journalists of Al Jazeera in the Gaza Strip”.

“The network considers this incentive an attempt dangerous to justify the targeting of its journalists on the ground,” he added.

The FDI declaration accused Al-Sharif of pretending to be a journalist and of being “responsible for the advancement of attacks of rockets against Israeli civilians and TSCUET troops”

He said it previously “revealed information” confirming his military affiliation, which included “lists of terrorist training courses”.

“Before the strike, measures were taken to mitigate civilians’ damage, including the use of precise ammunition, air surveillance and additional information,” the statement added.

According to the committee to protect journalists, 186 journalists have been confirmed since the start of the military offensive of Israel in Gaza in October 2023.
