The director of New Tottenham Hotspur, Thomas Frank, insists that there were “so many positive points” despite his team which threw an advance of two goals to lose for penalties against Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Super Cup of UEFA.

The Spurs were only a few minutes from a second European trophy in a few months after Micky Van de Ven and the new captain of the Cristian Romero club had put the North Londoners 2-0 before the last 10 minutes at Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy.

But the winners of Luis Enrique in the Champions League fell back into the competition thanks to late goals from the replacements Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos before winning the following penalty shootout 4-3.

However, for big spells in the match, the French club of all the conquered seemed to have very few answers to the game games of the Europa League: the one who seemed to have the plans of the Danish manager everywhere while the Spurs offered a guaranteed and widely risky display.

And Frank, who left Brentford to take over from Ange Postcoglou this summer, wanted to keep the emphasis on positive points.

“We played a very good match against one of the best world teams, perhaps the best at that time,” said Frank Sports after the match.

“We had exactly where we wanted them for 80 minutes, then it changed dynamism. But so many positive points, so proud of the team, players, club, fans.

“There is a lot to be satisfied, it’s a tour of a room when you go to a penalty shootout. We have shown that we could be tactical and pragmatic, at high pressure, low defense, the first half was above, almost perfect.

“We have shown that we can play against any team in the world. It is a positive to withdraw.”

Frank also admitted that even if he was satisfied with the players at his disposal, he was categorical that the team, who seemed ready to be without James Maddison during most of the season after the midfielder underwent an LCA injury, could strengthen before the Premier League season this weekend.

“In general, I am satisfied with the team, but we can make it stronger,” he added.

“There will be a little disappointment for 24 hours, but tomorrow afternoon, we will be ready.

“Friday, we will be more ready, then we will come on Saturday (at home in Burnley in the opening of the Premier League).”
