Tommasi said Thunberg had been distinguished by Israeli forces after being arrested.

“We have also seen Greta Thunberg at the port, in this case with her equal arms and an Israeli flag next to her, just a mockery,” he said. “Let’s say that mockery was part of the verbal and psychological violence they have always achieved, in order to demean, ridicule and laugh in situations where there is nothing to laugh.”

The interception of the flotilla came while US President Donald Trump tried to negotiate a new cease-fire initiative in Gaza, when he ordered Israel to stop bombing the enclave. Israel said he had accepted Trump’s proposal and Hamas said he accepted certain aspects. Negotiators are expected in Cairo on Monday.
