Google plays catching up against Anthropic and Openai because it slowly adds customization, personalization and gives users more control over the data to its gemini application.

Personalization and control of data in chat platforms allow individual users and in business to converse with the chatbot and to keep preferences. This is even more important for current projects in corporate space, because chatbots must remember the details such as the brand of the company or the voice.

Google has opted for a slower deployment of these features and will not allow users to modify or delete preferences, unlike its competitors.

First time on Gemini 2.5 Pro In some countries, Google will make “personal context” a default parameter, allowing it to “learn from your past conversations and provide relevant and personalized responses”. The company plans to extend the functionality to 2.5 flash in the coming weeks.

The previous versions of the application put the burden to customers to point the model to a specific cat for source preferences, for example, by mentioning a previous conversation. Users can always deactivate the personal context at any time.

Michael Siliski, principal director of product management of the Gemini application, said that deployment was one of the plans to make the application more personalized.

“At IS / S, we presented our vision of the Gemini application: to create an AI assistant who learns and really understands you – he does not simply respond to your prompt in the same way as it would be the prompt of someone else,” said Siliski in a blog article.

Currently, Gemini applications record cats up to 72 hours if the backup activity option is unrolled and can automatically delete another activity in intervals of three, 18 or 36 months.

Temporary cat and data control

Other new features to come on the Gemini application are the temporary cat and the control of additional customer data.

Temporary cat, a functionality too Presented on Chatgpt in April of last year, active Users to have occasional conversations. These cats will not influence future and will not be used for personalization or to form AI models.

Google has announced the introduction of additional data controls. The functionality, which is deactivated by default, would allow users to prevent their data be used in the future Google model training.

“When this parameter is followed, a sample of your future downloads will be used to improve Google services for everyone. If you prefer not to use your data in this way, you can deactivate this decor or use temporary cats. If your Gemini Applications activity setting is currently off, your Keep activity setting will remain off and you can activate it at any time,” said Silisky.

Google said it is an expansion of an previous update that allowed users to choose the sound, video and screens they can share with Gemini.

Memory and chatbots

Updates of Google Gemini arrive a full year after its biggest competitors have introduced similar features.

Chatgpt, for example, introduced the temporary cat, the history and memory of the cat in 2024. Openai updated these capacities in April of this year, and now Chatgpt can refer to all past conversations.

Anthropic introduced styles in November 2024, which allows Claude users to personalize how the model interacts with them. Earlier this week, Anthropic pushed an update for Claude to reference all conversations, not just those specified by users.

Although Google has introduced the personalization of Gemini 2.0, the model was unable to reference previous conversations if it was invited by the user.

Memory, personalization and personalization continue to be a battlefield in the AI armament race because users want cat platforms to “know” them or their brand. It provides a context and eliminates the need to repeat instructions for current projects.
