The US trade representative Jamieson Greer sounded a carefully optimistic note on discussions with China on rare earth flows, following commercial discussions that stabilized the savings more.

Greer said that the main industrial components were at the center of the negotiations in Stockholm last week which, according to Beijing, led to an extension of their pricing truce. Without going into details, he said that the United States has obtained commitments on its supply on CBS Face the nation broadcast on Sunday.

“We focused on the guarantee that China’s magnets in the United States and the adjacent supply chain can circulate as freely as before control,” said Greer in the interview, which was recorded on Friday. “And I would say that we are halfway there.”

This evaluation occurred four months after China has imposed export controls on rare earth magnets – used in the products of appliances to missiles – in retaliation for American tariff threats. Beijing agreed to accelerate their expeditions after Washington suspended the samples from top to bottom on Chinese exports.

US President Donald Trump is expected to make the last call to maintain the pricing truce, which expires on August 12, said Greer.

“We are working on certain technical problems and we talk about it to the president,” he said.

The flow of rare earth magnets in China in the United States increased to 353 tonnes in June, against only 46 tonnes in May, according to the latest customs data. Total expeditions were still considerably lower than those before the launch of Beijing export checks in early April.

Greer said earlier that Trump’s sales team hoped to have finished discussing the magnets with China, after him and the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent concluded a third series of commercial discussions with Beijing in the Swedish capital in late July. If the United States can overcome the problem of magnets, it can move on to an additional discussion on the American-Chinese relationship, he added.

The discussions have contributed to stabilizing relations between the two largest economies in the world, although many frictions remain, including on the borders of the United States on the export of the AI advanced fleas to its main competitor.

Beijing authorities summoned Nvidia Corp. To discuss the alleged security vulnerabilities linked to his H20 chips. The Trump administration has only recently been committed to removing export restrictions on less advanced technology to China, in a reversal that stimulated the discourse of a broader potential agreement with Beijing.

The China cyberspace administration cited the comments of the American legislators on the need to install follow -up capacities in advanced chips sold to other countries. The agency has asked the most precious company staff in the world to explain the potential risks and provide documents if necessary, CAC said without developing.
