Pep Guardiola criticized the size of his Manchester City team, saying that it is “not healthy” to have so many players after starting the season with a 4-0 victory in Wolves.

Erling Haaland scored twice while the exceptional Tijjani Reijnders and replacing it Rayan Cherki scored the first goals while City fell to Molinine victory to establish an early marker in the title race.

The additions of City de Reijnders, Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and goalkeeper James Trafford seem to have revitalized a team that fell well below their high expectations in a 2024-25 trophy season.

But they left Guardiola with what he feels an overly swollen team.

The goalkeeper Ederson is apparently ready to leave City, with Galatasaray who would be interested, while the move of James Mcatee in the Nottingham forest was confirmed on Saturday, when he joined Kevin de Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Jack Grenish (ready for Everton) to leave.

However, Guardiola is still not satisfied.

“Too many people,” said Guardiola. “These are not Eddy (Ederson), today (there), there were (no) Rodri, Phil (Foden), (Mateo) Kovacic, Savinho and Josko (Gvardiol).

“On the bench, we had Nathan (AKE) and Gündo (Ilkay Gündogan). I like a deep team to participate in all competitions but I don’t want to leave players at home. It’s not healthy. You cannot create a good atmosphere or a good atmosphere to compete.

“The club has known him since last season, but the situation is what it is. Over the next two weeks, people will talk to players and agents to find a solution. We have to reduce the team because it will be difficult to maintain the atmosphere of the team.”

Guardiola welcomes the Reijnders

While Guardiola evacuated his frustration in the face of the construction of his team, he was nothing more than praise for the Reijnders after an astonishing display.

Reijnders was involved in three of the four goals in the city, illustrating the influence he could have when Guardiola’s men seek to recover the title of the Premier League of Liverpool.

“Really good,” Guardiola told the BBC of the Reijnders display. “Garmant guys and had an impact from the first day. His pace, he can help with the midfielder.

“He can do races inside the pockets and spaces that sometimes we allow defenders to create.

“In Milan, he was exceptional and with the national team (Netherlands). We knew that he was the first signature of the coming years for City. ”
