Hansi Flick criticizes racist chants aimed at the Barcelona star

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has criticized racist chants by Getafe supporters Alejandro Balde as “unbelievable” and “wrong”.

The young left-back was manhandled in the first half of the clash in the Spanish capital, prompting him to go to the referee to inform him of what had been said.

Balde told reporters after the 1-1 draw: “Today I received racist abuse, I don’t think it will continue.

“It was in the first half, I warned the referee about racist abuse and he started the process and in the second half there was no more.

Flick was asked how he reacted to the incident when he spoke to the media, and his ex Bayern Munich and the German manager rubbed shoulders with his player and called for action from the players involved.

“There is no place for this in football or life. It’s unbelievable,” said Flick. “In the times we live in, it’s wrong. Those who do this should stay at home, I think we have to fight them, that’s the best thing.

“But the people around them can do something because it’s unfair. It’s not the respect we want to have, I think everyone can do something.”

BarcelonaThe manager also touched on another disappointing La Liga result, failing to capitalize on Atletico Madrid’s shock defeat against Leganes on Friday night. There was also some bad news on Sunday as the Clasico players Real Madrid beat Las Palmas 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to reclaim top spot from Atleti, seven points ahead of third-placed Barca.

“I’m not worried. I know the situation, I know that we lost a lot of points in the last games, it’s not what we want, and we can do better,” said Flick. “But at the end of the day, you can see we’ve had a really good start to the season in the new year, and I’m happy with that.

“But now we have to show. We have to show in Lisbon because it’s a very important game. Winning three points there means we’re through to the next round. That’s what we want, but we have to play very well.”
