How could Frodon be in “Hunting in Gollum”?

This weekend, Ian McKellen had a little Hobbiton-Disturbing of the-P-Face Energy on himself when he revealed during a fantastic convention in London that Frodon Baggins appears in Andy Serkis to come from Andy Serkis Rings Prequel film, Hunting in Gollum. Frodon is far from being the only familiar face that has been teasing as a potential appearance in the film (planned in 2027), but it is particularly interesting given the chronology of events that we already know in Tolkien’s books.
When Hunting in Gollum Together?
Addressing Empire Magazine at the end of last year, producer Phillipa Boyens said that Hunting in Gollum “Falls after Bilbo’s birthday party and before the Moria mines” during the events of The communion of the ring. We have already seen parts of this trip in the theatrical version and extended editions of the film. Galadriel’s prologue covers the discovery of Bilbo’s ring (before, once again, we see that covered even more for Hobbit: an unexpected trip), And we see moments of Gollum torture in the hands of the Sauron forces pointing to the Ringwrahs on the shore. Several scenes added in the prolonged cup, the members of the scholarship recognize that they are followed by Gollum when they arrived in Moria.
In the chronology of Tolkien’s writing, events are played in the same way, but we learn that, contrary to the perception of the film, these events take place on many, a lot longer time period.
Wait, how many years have passed between Bilbo’s party and the stock market training?

One of the most ill -transmitted things from the books of the cinematic adaptation of Camaraderie is that almost two decades pass between Gandalf leaving Frodon in the Shire after Bilbo broke out for Rivendell and the meeting of the Council of Elrond which sets the quest in motion to destroy a ring once and for all.
In Tolkien’s writing, the celebration of Bilbo’s 111st anniversary took place in the year 3001 of the third age, and the same year, Gandalf recruits Aragorn to follow and find where Gollum is, after the two cross-countryways near half a century earlier. Gollum had left his cave dwellings in the Misty mountains in 2944 to search for the half -seated that had taken the ring and was captured in 3009 by Aragorn. After being brought to the kingdoms of Mirkwood for interrogation, Gollum flees the elvic kingdoms while they are attacked by the forces of Mordor Fellowship of the RingClimb to the capital of Gondor, Minas Tirith, and discovers information leading him to believe that the magic ring of Bilbo is indeed the only ring of power. The Elrond Council, where Gandalf details its history that follows Gollum in the books, takes place in October of the same year.
This means the capture of Gollum by the forces of Sauron and the torture which ultimately leads him to share his knowledge of the site of the ring occurs at some point in almost 70 years between leaving his mountain house and his capture by Aragorn. And what is transmitted as weeks or months at best in the cinematic adaptation of Fellowship of the Ring is actually seventeen. The only real recognition that a significant passage has occurred is the aging of Bilbo, although this can be partly credited with its vitality which is no longer supported by the ring alone.
What was Frodon doing in the years?
The answer is that we simply do not know, beyond the fact that he continued to stay at the end of the bag after the departure of Bilbo from The Shire and that he kept the hidden ring according to Gandalf’s request. We know that, at the request of Gandalf when he went to Aragorn to discuss the search for Gollum, the Dúnedain Rangers watched over the county, which probably means that Frodon did not run exactly the middle of the earth for pleasure during this period, so he probably remained to live the same life he had since he was under the tutelage of Bilbo.
So how could Frodon be Hunting in Gollum?

Well, the easy answer is that Frodon does not need to be an extremely involved character in but the film depicts its version of the passage of the books and the writings of Tolkien. Peter Jackson’s cinematographic trilogy has already played in communication, for the most part, the years that spend between the events of Camaraderie,, Two lapsAnd King’s returnAnd we don’t know enough about the kind of time yet Gollum hunt will broadcast his own interpretation.
But whatever this, Frodon is at least present in three largely vague points: the opening, taking place with Gandalf leaving the Shire and recruiting Aragorn after the party of Bilbo; The end, which probably culminates with the return of Gandalf to the county to confirm his conviction that the only ring was found; and then literally anywhere Between these two points, awaiting the word of Gandalf and living its best life of half half. Any role in Gollum hunt could be incredibly light.
The film could also adopt the approach The Hobbit Trilogy did it with its own FrieD appearance. There, Frodon appears in the framing device that opens An unexpected trip Alongside the late Ian Holm, depicting the older Bilbo again, while the two hobbits discuss Bilbo writing the story of his adventures. Gollum hunt could very easily, say, flash from Frodon by writing his own adventures King’s returnThe epilogue of him wondering what Gandalf did after leaving the Shire.
