How the casting of “Andor” brought more powerful women to “Star Wars”

The extraordinary whole seen in Andor illustrated the best of Star Wars And brought more emblematic heroes and bad guys to the franchise in two unforgettable seasons. Directed by Geneviève O’Reilly, taking up her role as my Mothma, the women of the Disney + series really dug their heritage in the Lucasfilm universe.
In a behind -handed featurette for AndorCasting directors Nina Gold and Martin Ware discussed the discovery of the immense talents of the main ladies in the series. Elizabeth Dulau was a total revelation as Kleya Marki, a star of season two as Lar Luthen Rael. Gold described their search for Kleya: “Obviously, Stellan Skarsgård is completely a genius. We needed to find someone to play Kleya, who (all in) a young woman, could make him match in authority and intensity and could go aside with him in all situations, and (Dulau) really did.” We had to agree with the feeling because even when Kleya no longer shared moments with Luthen de Skarsgård, the actress shone in certain scenes of all chronometers, in particular this fateful mission of the hospital.
Ware knew that finding an equal to Match Skarsgård was essential for the possible conclusion of their scenario. “With Stellan, because he somehow plays two parts in a way for many spectacle, the owner of the gallery needs a lot of lightness, then he has the darker side, so it was just to find …”
Gold jumped, “… finding someone who could make this trip with him. She really had this interior order and this real authority. ” And it’s a fans would like to see if Gilroy revisits Andoris surviving characters.
An imperial villain that we want to see a greater cinematographic coming is Dedra Mero from Denise Gough, the social climber of the Overachieving Empire. Gold has described Motthroat’s villain as a “evil brain”. Gough was thrown after the casting directors saw it and the co-star Kyle Soller on stage. “It was a real incredible showcase for their shine on the screen. Their two characters really crossed a complete and very large trip to go from where they started, because it was a very impenetrable and authoritarian boss.”
Ware complimented the transformation of season two of Gough. “In season two, the character of Dedra, we see her in a domestic setting. We see her with us. We see her dealt with Syril’s mom. And loving Syril in his own very strange and particular way.” But of course, his ambition leads him to abandon the simple fascist family life for greater things that explode on his face.
Gold and Ware had work to do as Gilroy wanted for the romantic partner of Cassian, Bix. Fortunately, they found everything with Adria Arjona. “(Also), as soon as she made her first five words from her first hearing, he suddenly became really obvious that it must be her.”
Gold explained that Bix should be more than just a romantic interest and demonstrate that she was also a fighter capable in rebellion, which Arjona easily manipulated. “She had such an incredible mixture of the other type of bix strength and resilience and the vulnerability and the desire to travel this huge journey that Bix must cross. She was one of the few people who were able to enter the room to do a chemistry test with Diego (Luna), and once again who cemented it very clearly that they were really intended to play these parts in opposite. ” ». And we agree that the performance of Arjona and Luna gave Andor His heart as well as the hope that the example of the show has sacrificed so much.
According to Ware, the casting process was shaped by the script and AndorCreator. “The only script is so detailed and precise on the character and the intention that it is quite easy for us to start thinking of brilliant actors to give them life. But then Tony Gilroy would also like to talk about other thoughts he had on the characters before directing us there to create lists and to audition actors.”
Gold added that Gilroy’s contribution along the way has really highlighted what the galaxy needed in his heroes and bad guys to serve the incredible global story Andor brought to our screens. “It was fascinating because Tony’s interest in character is so detailed and wonderful, and he is very flexible in his thought,” said Gold. “When he sees something in an actor who is not necessarily the thing he had thought originally, he is very happy to make changes in his thought process if that seems the right thing to do. And also the writing is so attractive for the actors because it is so interesting and good.”
The trio does not even complete the rest of the supremely talented actresses presented in AndorBut galaxy is a better place because of them, that’s for sure. Look at the clip below!
