Graham Potter still believes in his West Ham players despite their disappointing start for the Premier League season.

The Hammers were beaten 3-0 at the newly promoted Sunderland last Saturday after an abject screen of second half saw the Wearsiders go to the victory.

It was a relatively calm summer on the front with Potter bringing Jean-Clair Todibo, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Mads Hermansen, but the former boss of Chelsea thinks that there is still enough quality within the group to succeed this season.

It is not a question of bringing new players – Potter

Speaking before tomorrow night’s home match with Chelsea, he said: “We have to get the best of the team we have. We also seek to improve, we will do it together, as a club, we will do it collectively and try to find the best solution.

“It’s great when you have had a bad result, everyone thinks that the miracle solution will come from outside and save us all. The story suggests that it doesn’t work like that.

“It’s about being a team and accepting criticism when a bad result comes, but to continue your work and accept responsibility.”

‘It’s up to us to react’

The defeat of the opening day was a setback that gives to think for West Ham and Potter knows that the pressure will increase if there is a lot more.

He added: “It is a disappointing result, there is no problem. It is a bad result for us.

“I really believe in players, I believe a lot about the team, I believe a lot at the club and my work is to support them and push and improve.

“This is the Premier League, we cannot present ourselves anywhere and think that we are going to get three points. We know that we have to do more, improve our performance. The players were emptied after the match.

“It’s up to us to react and play.”

The only positive for Potter before Chelsea’s shock is the lack of injuries within his team.

“Everyone is fine. George Terreux trained with the group today. Luis Guilherme went on his shoulder the week before the match, so he is still missing but apart from everyone,” he said.
