New images shared on social networks show the far -right Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir, taunting the most eminent Palestinian prisoner, Marwan Barghouti in his cell.

The Palestinian authority condemned the video. His vice-president Hussein al-Sheikh described him as “the quintessence of psychological, moral and physical terrorism”.

The 13 -second video clip has been the first time that Barghouti has been seen publicly for years. He seems elderly and emaciated.

The Israeli Minister of National Security, Ben Gvir, said to him: “You will not win. He who disturbs the people of Israel, the one who will assassinate our children, the one who will assassinate our women, we wipe it”.

While Barghouti tries to intervene, Ben Gvir adds: “You have to know it, throughout history.”

Marwan Barghouti, 66, was imprisoned by Israel over 20 years ago after being found guilty of planning attacks that led five civilians to kill. It purges five sentences with perpetuity over 40 years.

Opinion polls have always indicated that he remains the most popular Palestinian leader and that the Palestinians would vote for him during a presidential election before the current Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas or Hamas.

There remains a senior figure of the faction of the Fatah, which dominates the Palestinian authority (PA). It was targeted by Israel because of its leading role in the second Palestinian intifada or the uprising from 2000 to 05.

The video originally surfaced on messaging groups for Ben Gvir supporters on Thursday, but was now republished on his X account.

The minister says that after reading how “all kinds of” senior officials “” in the AD did not like what he said, he “will repeat it again and again without apologizing”.

The organizations of defense of the rights of Palestinian prisoners say that Barghouti has been placed in cell isolation since the attacks carried out by deadly Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023. Last year, they accused guards of “brutally attacked” in his cell that the Israeli penitentiary service refused.

In response to the new video, the leader of the Palestinian prisoners club Abdullah al-Zaghari accused Israel of seeking “to eliminate it and murder languid managers in its prisons”.

Barghouti is one of the prisoners whose release of Hamas would have asked for an exchange agreement for the remaining hostages he holds. However, it is very unlikely that Israel is released.

In the video, as Ben Gvir speaks, Barghouti – who speaks Hebrew fluent – can be seen nod and try to penetrate, but the short clip ends before him.

His wife, Fadwa, recommended her husband’s disciples that one was still used in the video which, according to her, showed her strength.

The Palestinians largely see Barghouti as the leader who could best unify different political factions and negotiate peace with Israel.
