Jen Pawol gave us sports history by becoming the first woman referee to arbitrate a major league baseball match (MLB) during the regular season.

Pawol, 48, supervised the first goal in Saturday’s match between the Braves of Miami Marlins and Atlanta.

“I am aware of gravity. I am aware of the magnitude,” she said, quoted by MLB.com.

Pawol looked delighted when she was welcomed on the Atlanta, Georgia, cheers and a standing ovation.

“It was quite incredible when we took the field, and it seemed that a lot of people started to applaud and to say my name, so it was quite intense and very emotional,” she said after the match.

During the match, the supporters in the stands held panels, including “Pawol Making Herstory” and “The time has come for one and all to play the ball”.

To mark the occasion, after the match, Pawol donated the hat she wore to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Pawol is expected to return to the field on Saturday evening, when she is responsible for the third goal.

All eyes will be on her on Sunday when she stands behind marble, calling balls and strikes, in the last match of the three game series.

Pawol, from New Jersey, worked for years as a referee in minor leagues and supervised more than 1,200 games in his career over 30, MBL reported.

In the stands to support it, there were a multitude of people and friends, including current players, managers and referees.

His entry into MBL comes 28 years after the NBA authorized her first basketball referee. The National Football League (NFL) hired its first official wife 10 years ago, while the Men’s World Football World Cup hired a referee three years ago.

The National Hockey League has not yet seen a woman referee.
