Bournemouth ended Newcastle’s nine-game winning streak with a comfortable 4-1 win at St James’ Park.

Justin Kluivert scored a superb hat-trick before Milos Kerkez added a fourth as Andoni Iraola’s men recovered from Bruno Guimaraes’ first goal as the visitors ran out deserved winners.

The Cherries extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions with the win, which saw them move up to sixth in the table in the interim.

Newcastle were a Premier League side before kick-off, but Bournemouth caught the hosts off guard early on, creating a number of chances that went wide in the early stages.

They got the goal they deserved six minutes later when Antoine Semenyo found space on the left before Kluivert found the bottom corner.

The Magpies looked to be struggling to get into gear but found themselves in a comfortable position when Bruno Guimaraes headed home a free from Lewis Hall’s corner to equalize in what was an exciting start.

Newcastle looked to have the upper hand, but found themselves again when Semenyo released Kluivert, who finished off Martin Dubravka and restored Bournemouth’s lead.

Bournemouth have surpassed Newcastle

The stalemate continued in the second half, though it was Bournemouth who remained the main threat in front of goal as the Toon struggled to regain the margin they had earlier.

Bournemouth thought they should have gone 3-1 through Dango Ouattara, but after a VAR review, it was rightly disallowed after the ball ended in the build-up.

Newcastle had another lucky escape when David Brooks’ touch on Semenyo’s cross deflected off Tino Livramento and bounced off the post.

A tense finish followed before Bouremouth celebrated a deserved victory as Kluivert brilliantly completed his hat-trick with a long-range strike that left Dubravka stranded.

Anthony Gordon was denied a late comeback when his effort was blocked on the line.

But it was sure to be Bournemouth’s day when Kerkez raced down the other side before crashing down and finding the net.
