Barcelona abandoned points at La Liga for the first time this season when they were held in a 1-1 draw from Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Lamine Yamal scored a 40th minute penalty to give Hansi Flick the team the advantage before the break, but Rayo struck back with a goal over 67 minutes from the replacement Fran Perez to obtain a draw in Estadio de Vallecas.

The hosts, who finished eighth in the Spanish elite the last mandate, had a goal from ISI Palazon fell with only five minutes to play, while Flick had goalkeeper Joan Garcia to thank after the Barca cap made a series of beautiful stops to maintain the scoring.

It was an entertaining competition in Madrid, where a few kilometers away the day before, the big rivals of the Catalan club, Real Madrid, came from behind to beat Mallorca to maintain their perfect start to the season and move at the top of the table.

The result means that Barcelona sits in fourth place after three games. Marcus Rashford, on a loan from a season of Manchester United, started on the bench and presented for the last half hour.

But the English international could not do much to change the result of the match while his hunt for a first goal in the colors of Barça continues.

The side of Flick is the next in action after the international break when they welcome Valence on September 13, while Real Madrid goes to Real Sociedad.
