Man City are considering a January reunion with the former midfielder

Changes to Manchester City’s squad in January could result in a loan move move to former player Douglas Luiz, according to reports.

The Premier League’s top scorers were on top form on Sunday 6-0 win over Ipswich Townindicating that their recent conflict may be a thing of the past.

City jumped into the top four with the win, ensuring their place in the next round Champions League it now looks like an early goal with Liverpool 12 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Injuries to key players have blighted City’s season, resulting in the team’s worst run of results under Guardiola. The biggest shortage has been in the middle, right Ballon d’Or winger Rodri has been absent since tearing his ACL in September – a potential injury Spanish control for the remainder for the 2024/25 campaign.

The Athletic City are reportedly looking to expand their squad with January signings, possibly targeting Luiz, who spent two years at the Etihad Stadium before joining Aston Villa in 2019.

The Brazilian became one of Villa’s most important players, making 175 appearances Premier League games in five seasons, and he seems to have taken the next step in his career by moving to Juventus last summer. But his move to Turin, prompted by Villa’s need to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, did not materialise.

Luiz can be allowed to leave Juventus on credit, even moving can be difficult if the purchase obligation is included or not. City would prefer a straight loan, it is said, while Juventus want to secure a future sale.

City are committed to strengthening Guardiola’s squad in January and are close to making three big-money signings. Defensive duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are expected to join from Lens and Palmeiras respectively, with deals in the region of £70m close to being finalised.
