A key member of the famous 1968 Manchester United team that won the European Cup, Law’s influence on the club and Scottish football cannot be denied. He also enjoyed success with the Scotland national team, scoring 30 goals in 55 appearances.
Law received the Ballon d’Or in 1964, in recognition of his exceptional skills and contribution to the game.
After retirement, Law continued to be involved in football, donating his time to charities and being a respected figure in the game. He was made a CBE in 2016 for his services to football and charity and has been honored with statues at Old Trafford and Aberdeen.
Manchester United have released a statement expressing their sadness at the news of Law’s death. “He will always be respected as one of the club’s greatest and most loved players,” the club said. “A top scorer, his skill, spirit and love for the game made him a hero of the generation.”
