British artist Morrissey canceled two shows in the United States after receiving a death threat before a concert in Ottawa, Canada.

A 26 -year -old Ottawa man was released on bail after having pretended a threat to kill the singer, whose real name is Steven Morrissey, before his performance during a music festival last week.

The event continued as planned, but the singer then canceled two shows in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Morrissey was the front of the rock group The Smiths, but left the group in 1987 to pursue a solo career.

It is known to be frank on questions such as animal welfare and politics.

In 2006, he refused to tour in Canada to protest the annual Seal hunting.

After the threat against his life in Ottawa last week, he canceled Friday’s show in Connecticut and one in Boston.

“In recent days, there has been a credible threat to Morrissey’s life,” said a press release from Boston on Instagram.

“By an abundance of prudence for the safety of the artist and the group, the commitments of tomorrow at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway have been canceled.”
