Paris Saint-Germain opened its Ligue 1 campaign with a close victory of 1-0 in Nantes, but they were forced to work hard for the three points.

The Luis Enrique team dominated possession, but a resolute defense of Nantes frustrated the champions in the first half.

Goncalo Ramos struck the transverse bar, while Kang-in Lee and Bradley Barcola provided dangerous crosses, but PSG had trouble finding the breakthrough.

At the other end, Mosafa Mohamed and Yassine Benhattab sporadically threatened on the counter, although Gianluca Chevalier remained largely not tested.

Enrique turned to his bench at the beginning of the second half, presenting Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi in search of a greater momentum of attack.

The changes borne fruit over 67 minutes when Mendes found the Vitinha by the box. The midfielder’s effort made a nasty deviation off Chidozie Awaziem, finding Alban Lafont and nesting in the lower corner.

PSG thought that they had doubled their advance ten minutes later when Ramos had finished coldly from the pass of Doue, but Var directed him closely offside.

Visitors continued to press, with Barcola flashing a thick shot, but Nantes rallied late, replacing Tabibou triggering in time as they desperately sought an equalizer.

The statistics reflected control of PSG, with 1.33 goals expected compared to 0.1 from Nantes, but the men of Enrique were forced to wet the victory.

Nantes goes to Strasbourg next Sunday, while PSG welcomes Angers on Friday, aimed at relying on their victory departure.
