The director of Barcelona Sporting Deco confirmed that the Catalan club would not face a financial penalty if they decided not to take the possibility of signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis next summer.

Rashford moved to Barça on a loan from a season of Manchester United in July and took a positive start with the highlight being his two goals during the victory of the Champions 2-1 League in Newcastle a fortnight ago.

Spanish champions can sign the English international full -time if they wish, but Deco says they are free to make this decision without appeal from United if they choose to send it back to Old Trafford.

Chelsea was contractually forced to pay United 5 million pounds Sterling when they decided not to sign Jadon Sancho permanently in June, but Barça is not in the same situation.

In a large interview with Mundo Deportivo, Deco said: “There is no penalty, if we want, we have an option to buy. It is too early to talk about the decisions of next season, but what matters is that we are satisfied with him. What we thought he could bring us, it contributes.

“He is a player with a very high level. He exploded very early on (in his career) and had great seasons in United, then he had more complicated years of situations with changes in coaches and perhaps it was so difficult for him because they demanded a lot there. But we are satisfied with him, it is the most important thing.

“These are not decisions for now, it is now time to focus on future matches. A decision will be made, but we are not talking about it now.”

There has never been a plan A, B and C – Deco

Barça had three options to fill the slot on the left during the summer: Rashford, Luis Diaz and Nico Williams.

Diaz ended up joining Bayern Munich from Liverpool while Williams signed a new contract at Athletic Bilbao.

When he was set to decor that Diaz was “planned A”, he said: “This is not a plan A or B plan

“What he and I said is that we didn’t want to lose important players. We were clear about what we could let go and what we couldn’t. And if we could improve in areas that needed improvement … When we saw the team of last season, we miss something there (left).

“We thought that the Ansu (Fati) would play this role. He started the pre-season well, but things did not go and he also had injuries that hampered him. He could play the left wing and new but we did not miss this profile in the team.

“Luis Díaz fits into that, adjusted Rashford, then it’s a matter of negotiation. On the other side, there is a club and they are very high, you are talking about Liverpool and United.

“With Díaz and Liverpool, from the first minute, it became quite difficult with them not wanting to sell and it ended up being impossible. The Rashford thing at first was also complicated, but it became a little easier because United was more open to a transfer.

“Then came Nico whose profile we were not looking for. It is not that there is a plan A, B or C, although for the press, it’s normal. For us, everyone is a different player and has different qualities.”

Blame the agent, not Barça for Williams Row – Deco

It was the second successive summer that Williams had nearly joining Barça only for the agreement to fall. This has led to a lot of teeth in Bilbao, but Deco says that those looking for someone to blame should focus their anger on the player’s agent.

“We did not look for their player, we did not continue his player,” insisted the former midfielder in Barça and Portugal. “They must worry about the agent, who came to Barça several times to offer the player.

“It is not a club problem. If one of our players gives his agent permission to speak to other teams, we cannot get angry with others on this subject. We are moving on. He is a Bilbao player. It is a very simple situation. The agent looked for us, he tried to do.
