The Army of South Korea claims that North Korea began to remove some of the speakers used to spread propaganda through the border between the two countries.

North Korea’s decision seems to be a positive reaction to the openings of the newly elected South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who had campaigned on the improvement of intercreal links.

South Korea has dismantled some of its own speakers earlier this week. He had interrupted the programs along the demilitarized zone shortly after Lee took office in June – which prompted a similar answer to his neighbor.

The South Korean emissions had often presented K-Pop songs and reports while the North played disturbing noises, such as howling animals.

In a statement on Saturday, the South Korea army said that it had “detected North Korean troops unraveling the propaganda speakers in certain parts along the front line this morning”.

He added: “It remains to be confirmed if the devices have been deleted in all regions, and the military will continue to monitor related activities.”

The speakers’ programs were suspended from previous occasions. But after a six -year break, they resumed in June 2024 in response to the Pyongyang campaign to send balls filled with waste to the south.

Residents living along the border had complained that their lives had been destroyed by noise from both sides, sometimes in the middle of the night.

Seoul said the emissions could be heard up to 10 km (six miles) through the day and up to 24 km (15 miles) at night.

But speaking after South Korea suspended its programs in June, organizations advocating to improve human rights in North Koreans criticized this decision.

South Korea has started to eliminate some of its own speakers this week

The links between North Korea and South Korea had deteriorated under President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was more fellowship towards Pyongyang.

Yoon was dismissed and withdrawn from his post for having briefly placed South Korea under martial law in December, citing supposed threats from the anti-state forces and sympathizers of North Korea.

The reunition with the South has always been a key, although increasingly unrealistic, part of the ideology of the North since the creation of the State – until its current leader, Kim Jong Un, abandoned the idea in 2024.

The two countries have been technically still at war since the end of the Korean War in 1953 without peace treaty.
