Novak Djokovic sends warning to Carlos Alcaraz for ‘thinking about history’


Novak Djokovic recently gave his opinion on Carlos Alcaraz’s desire to become the greatest. The Serbian believes that although the young Spaniard has already shown a lot of promise at the age of 21, he may need to slow down a bit before making big promises for himself.

Alcaraz had a great season on the ATP tour last year, winning four titles – two of which came at the French Open and Wimbledon. However, he fell two spots from his World No.

He said, Alcaraz he did not shy away from expressing his best intentions last year when he said that he wanted to be “a part of tennis history”. He also talked about his chances of winning the Major 24 times as a reference point.

“I know it’s impossible to break Novak’s record but I’m playing tennis for myself, for fun and I want to do big things,” said Carlos Alcaraz last year (via BBC Sport). “I want to be a part of tennis history.”

To this end, Novak Djokovic expressed his thoughts on the Spaniard’s ambitions in an interview with GQ. The 37-year-old started by giving World No.

However, he also admitted that Alcaraz can think about his place in tennis history.

“Carlos has done what no one has done in history at such a young age. So the odds are with him. He will complete his (career) Slam soon,” Novak Djokovic told GQ. “He has said it himself, he wants to make history. He wants to be ‘the best in history.’ I respect that kind of attitude of ‘Hey, I think I’ve got the goods.’ But maybe it’s too early for him to think about history.”

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are both set to resume their rivalry in 2025. Australian Open. The Spaniard and the Serb find themselves sharing the same field, meaning only one will make it to the semifinals in Melbourne.

Alcaraz needs to do well to win the 24th Major if he meets in the last eight. He trails Djokovic by a narrow 3-4 margin in their head-to-head meetings on the ATP Tour, giving the 37-year-old a great chance to win the highly-anticipated match.
