The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) appointed online games as one of the greatest revenue engines in the government in 2025.

At the same time, Pagcor has also warned of the danger of unregulated sites illegally targeting the Filipino players in a report subject to the Games and Entertainment Chamber Committee. Pagcor and CEO of Pagcor, Alejandro H. Tengco, stressed that the online game sector under license earned 69 billion Philippin Pesos ($ 1.2 billion) in license costs between January and July 2025.

By breaking down, 41 billion Philippin Pesos ($ 720 million) came from electronic games, while the other 28 billion Filipino pesos ($ 490 million) came from varied online games. These revenues have funded billions in corporate social responsibility programs and the strengthening efforts of the nation across the country.

“Because of its enormous potential, online games have become an important source of funds for our commitments to strengthen the nation, including Pagcor’s support for education, health care and community development,” said Tengco.

More specifically, projects that benefited from game income included Pagcor flagship services, such as the construction of schools, socio-civic centers, well-being centers and online learning spaces.

“Each peso that we collect in the game sector is reflected in significant projects such as classrooms for our children, health programs for our employees and safe spaces for calamity,” said Tengco. “This is how we make sure that the game benefits directly to the Philippins.”

However, while financial gains help transform the Philippines, Tengco also warned of the growing risk of illegal online game providers. He stressed that they often target actors of all ages without taking into account any of the regulatory guarantees.

“These illegal sites not only deprive the government of essential income, but also expose the Philippin players to many risks,” said Tengco.

He then put pressure for a stronger application against such platforms, emphasizing Pagcor’s commitment “to strengthen the regulations and the application to ensure that only legitimate and correctly monitored operators are authorized to operate”.
