The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) reports that only 1 out of 12 game sites operate legally before the next football season.

Surprising statistics are also delivered with a warning concerning the official volume of illegal websites in the European nation, compared to legal options for bettors.

The information was published as part of the DSWV and the figures provided by the Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL).

Illegal game sites prevail over license options for German bettors

The DSWV and GGL have said that before the next UEFA Champions League campaign, there are 382 illegal game sites that are currently taking bets, which contrasts strongly with the 34 approved entities paying tax and must respect the country’s strict regulations.

Mathias Dahms, president of the DSWV, said: “On the legal sports betting market, players benefit from guaranteed protection for players, reliable payments and tax revenue for the common good. The illegal providers on the black market, on the other hand, adhere to any rule, offer no security and have a higher risk of drug addiction. ”

Interacting with illegal operators is an offense in Germany and has a fine and a possible childcare penalty if it is found guilty of using illegal sites.

Dahms maintains that the legal guarantees and the protections in place for players who register with a license entity are the only safe options for German players.

Players, according to the president, “must be particularly vigilant at this time of year so that they do not accidentally end up with illegal suppliers. This is another reason why the legal suppliers are present with perimeter and television advertising councils during the Champions League matches.”

German regulators publish the white list for betting

German regulators also maintain a digital “white list” of officially approved operators, allowing bettors to check whether a site is legally authorized to operate in the country.

These approved operators must also show their official documentation and make it possible to operate on the joint playing authority of the German States platform.

The platform is also a benchmark for studies on social, psychological, medical, legal and economic problems related to the game in Germany.

They include prestigious institutions such as the University of Bochum – Institute for Game and Society, the University of Bremen – Gambling Research Unit and the Central Institute of Mental Health – Behavioral Addictions Working Group, to appoint some of the contributors.
