The models can be found in the “Picker” menu at the top of the chatgpt session screen on the web and on mobile and other applications.

The reversal follows a turbulent first week for GPT -5, which was deployed on August 7 in four variants – regular, mini, nano and pro – with optional “thought” modes on several of them for longer and more intensive tasks.
As previously reported by Venturebeat, the beginnings of GPT-5 encountered mixed criticism and infrastructure hiccups, including a broken “autoswitcher” which has sent incorrect prompts, incoherent performance compared to GPT-4O, and the frustration of users about the sudden withdrawal of the older models.
Altman’s latest update adds new controls to the Chatgpt interface: users can now choose between “auto”, “fast” and “think” modes for GPT-5.
The “thought” mode – with a context window of 196,000 tonnes – now has a ceiling of 3,000 messages per week To pay subscribers, after which they can continue to use the lighter mode “GPT-5 Thinking Mini”. Altman noted that the limits could change according to the trends of use.
However, GPT-4.5 remains exclusive to professional users due to its high GPU cost.
Altman also referred to another change on the horizon: an adjustment of the personality for GPT-5 intended to feel “warmer” than the current defect, but less polarizing than the tone of GPT-4O.
The company explores customization by user as a long -term solution – a decision that could tackle the strong emotional attachments that some users have formed with specific models.
For the moment, the changes should help to appease users who have felt frustrated by the sudden passage to GPT-5 and the depreciation of the older LLMS of Openai, although it can also continue to fuel the intense emotional fixings that some users have developed with these models.
