Australian Internet service providers (ISP) have received instructions to block a multitude of illegal game sites, including Polymarket.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced, as part of an update, that these sites were in violation of the country’s game legislation.

Polymarket is included in the Australian IP ban prohibition list

Polymarket is one of the biggest names in bets on the prediction market around the world. As we have pointed out, platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi dominate the American prediction market in 2025.

The prediction markets allow bettors to implement results from elections to weather conditions and a multitude of novelty bets. Polymarket recently announced that the company “returned home”, according to the founder, Shane Copland, as part of a takeover agreement involving QCEX.

It will therefore be a shock for the system that the polymarket was considered an “illegal game” site by ACMA. The Australian government game regulator said on its official website that the prediction platform was in violation of the country’s interactive game law.

Polymarket officially prohibited in Oz

ACMA “reminds consumers that even if a service seems legitimate, it is unlikely that it has protections of important customers. This means that Australians who use illegal game services may lose their money. ”

The sites involved in the recent action of the guard dog include polymarket, the mafia of slot machines, the spinanga and the best Australian pokies. The regulator has published on social networks on the list of recently prohibited sites:

This is not the first time that a nation has come up against a provider of predictions, and this is not the first time that Polymarket has been involved.

Thailand moved to block the site at the start of the year (January 2025), and an official declaration explained that the suspension should “prevent the public from the victim of the online game victim and end the use of the cryptocurrency in illegal activities, which could lead to serious economic and social impacts”.

Singapore quickly prohibited the platform, the country’s game regulatory authority saying that Polymarket was an “illegal game website”.

AMCA has acted since November 2019 to take measures, such as blocking sites that have conflict with the country’s law. From this moment, 1,296 illegal and concerning sites were blocked or invited to be blocked by the regulator.

According to the press release, “220 illegal services have also withdrew from the Australian market since ACMA began to apply new illegal online game rules in 2017.” It therefore remains to be seen if Polymarket fights the ban or will become one of these companies which leave the oceanic region.
