Pre -season trip – Newcastle and Brentford held while Inter Milan picks up the entertaining victory

There was a lot of action on Friday evening when the championship returned for the 2025-26 season, but many teams of the best on the continent were also in action.
In the middle of the storm of Alexandre Isak, Newcastle faced the Spaniard Espanyol, while Brentford – without Wantaway Yoane Wissa – faced the opposition of Bundesliga to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Last season of Serie A, Inter Milan, also faced a New-Look Monaco team in France.

Newcastle 2-2 Espanyol
Newcastle was held in a 2-2 draw by Espanyol in a friendly in St James’ Park.
Despite Jacob Murphy’s well -taken goal, who seems to have won the Magpies’ victory late, Kike Garcia’s head in the 89th minute assured visitors an equalizer of the last blow.
The game started vivid for Espanyol, who took the lead in the 17th minute via Edu Exposito.
The midfielder pulled a sublime strike on a right foot from the outside of the box in the upper left corner, brilliantly installed by Roberto Fernandez.
Newcastle responded quickly, with Matt Targett equalizing only four minutes later by feeding a head near the Espanyol goalkeeper after a teasing crossing by Lewis Miley.
The first half also saw the Espanyol received a penalty after a fault on Roberto Fernandez inside the box by Targett. However, Javi Puado’s kick was saved by Aaron Ramsdale, keeping the score level at halftime.
Jacob Murphy put Newcastle in the 77th minute with a clinical finish inside the interior of the box, seeming to give victory to the local team.
But Espanyol’s persistence borne fruit when Pere Milla whipped in a cross that Kike Garcia met a powerful head in the 89th minute, redirecting the ball in the upper right corner to level the score again.
Newcastle will take positive points from the spirit of combat and the intention of attack, while the Espanyol has demonstrated their threat to the pieces and the composure to come back late.
Brentford 2-2 Borussia Monchengladbach
Brentford and Borussia Monchengladbach played an entertaining 2-2 draw, the two parties producing quality moments in an animated meeting.
Visitors first hit the brand half an hour. After Joe Scally saw two efforts blocked in a quick succession, Haris Tabakovic’s head spread-but a few moments later, Grant-Leon Ranos went closely to the slit in the lower corner, giving Gladbach an advance of 1-0.
Brentford replied well, Sepp van den Berg and Igor Thiago both approach the break.
The second half broke out in life after restarting. Fabio Carvalho, animated throughout, forced Nicolas to a clear backup before finally leveling in the 69th minute, ending from the interior of the box after a move.
Just a minute later, Mikkel Damsgaard produced a moment of magic, gaping a right foot strike at a distance in the lower corner to turn the game on his head at 2-1.
Gladbach, however, refused to bend. The replacement Robin Hack had an immediate impact, creating Franck Honorat, who pierced a low shot from the outside of the box in the lower left corner with four minutes to play.
Monaco 1-2 Inter Milan
Inter Milan came from behind to win a 2-1 victory against Monaco in a friend full of action at the Louis-II stadium.
The hosts made a dream start, taking the lead after only two minutes when Maghnes Akliouche pulled a superb strike of the left foot in the upper corner of the outside of the box.
Monaco looked at the clearer side very early, with the Lamine Camara twice forcing Yann Sommer to backups and Denis Zakaria hitting the post from a distance.
Inter’s task became more difficult for 36 minutes when Hakan Calhanoglu received a second yellow card for a late challenge, reducing visitors to ten men.
Despite the digital drawback, the Italian part responded after the break.
Lautaro Martinez leveled the scoring on time, clinically ending at close range after Nicolo Barella led a quick counterattack.
Monaco pushed to restore their advantage, Akliouche hitting the post with a header and Singoutou Magassa pulling on.
However, Inter hit the 80th minute decisive. Replace Ange-Yoan Bonny crowned another quick break with a finish made up of the center of the box, which makes it 2-1.
