Russell Martin admitted that his team fought 6-0 in the hands of Club Brugge in their match of the Champions League qualifiers was “humiliating” while the pressure rose on the bosses of the Rangers.

The Scottish Club, which passed Max Aarons in 10 minutes in Bruges, crashed 9-1 on the goals of Joaquin Seys (2), Nicolo Tresoldi, Hans Vanaken, Aleksandar Stankovic and Christos Tzolis composed what was miserable for a few weeks for Martin and his team.

The Rangers are now without victory in three games in all competitions, with Martin’s future at the club who was looking at more and more in danger before the old Sunday derby against Celtic, who himself suffered from humiliation in Europe this week after being eliminated by Kazakhstan Club Kairat on penalties.

“I’m extremely injured. It’s humiliating,” said Martin after the match. “I have nothing to really say to apologize to supporters for what happened tonight.

“The bases hurt us. So much self-inflicted pain, last week and today, it’s so avoidable. Our answer, as a group at the moment, is far from being quite good. So I’m really sorry for that.

“We must make sure to answer properly on Sunday (against Celtic).”

The boss of the Rangers also revealed that “lots” had been said by the players of the full -time locker room and insisted that the team needed “real leadership”.

“There were a lot in the locker room between the players,” added Martin.

“The level of help they sometimes give themselves is not enough. Many players have spoken out and said their song.

“We are going to need a real leadership now, real conviviality to make sure that we can put a performance that makes everyone feel a lot, much better.

“I can not say anything now who will do that anyone feels better. We must make sure that we will prove that we want to create something here (at the Rangers) and be an appropriate team.”
