Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in China for the benefits of the red carpet, joining more than 20 leaders at a regional security summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the port of Tianjin comes a few days before a large military parade in Beijing marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

Modi – Visit China for the first time in seven years – had talks with XI before the summit opened and said that Delhi wanted to improve links with his neighbor.

The rally is accompanied by steep rates of the United States imposed on Indian products as punishment for the continuous purchase of Delhi of Russian oil and with threats of sanctions against war against Ukraine.

Modi told Xi that India has committed to advance “our links on the basis of mutual trust, dignity and sensitivity”, according to a modified video published on X.

“The interests of 2.8 billion people from the two countries are linked to our cooperation. This will also open the way to the well-being of all humanity,” Modi in Xi.

Trump prices, India and China are looking for a business restart

There are 10 member states in the SCO supported by Beijing – including Pakistan, Iran and Bélarus – as well as 16 partners and dialogue observers.

The summit itself is largely symbolic but will allow managers to disseminate common grievances and shared interests-and this year, the rally will be overshadowed by commercial wars with the United States.

President Trump’s decision to impose 50% prices on India last week seems to have helped to improve relations between New Delhi and Beijing, which had dropped in 2020 for a deadly skirmish between border forces in Himalayas.

The SCO organization was created by China, Russia and four countries in Central Asia in 2001 as a counter-measure to limit the influence of Western alliances such as NATO.

This year’s rally is the most important since the organization’s foundation.

The meeting comes a few days before the massive military parade which will mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
