Ramaswamy to leave DOGE to pursue Ohio governor – Politico By Investing.com

Investing.com– Vivek Ramaswamy, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Public Works and Elon Musk, may leave the team before it starts, Politico reported Sunday.

Ramaswamy plans to announce a campaign for Ohio Governor and may leave DOGE by the end of January, Politico reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Ramaswamy, who also briefly campaigned for the Presidency, was nominated by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to replace Vice President JD Vance in the Senate on Friday, with Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted being nominated for the job.

The exit of Ramaswamy also undermines the hope of success of the DOGE, which has set a goal to reduce government spending by $ 2 trillion by July 2026. Musk also recently reduced this goal, saying that $ 1 trillion in spending seems more likely.

Although the agency says it has begun planning its proposals, doubts remain about how much power it will have in government, as the final decision on spending cuts still rests with Congress.

While Trump is expected to sign major legislation empowering the group, the exact details are still unclear.

Ramaswamy was not immediately available for comment.
