Rescuers run to reach hikers blocked

The rescuers were mobilized to help hundreds of hikers trapped by heavy snow in tourist campsites on the eastern face of Mont Everest in Tibet, according to Chinese state media.

About 350 hikers were taken to safety and rescuers were in contact with 200 other people, Chinese state media reported.

Strong snowfall that started on Friday evening intensified on the eastern slopes of Mont Everest. Sudden bad weather has also struck Nepal, where torrential rains and floods have killed at least 47 people since Friday.
