Chile rescuers continue to look for four minors trapped in a mine that collapsed after an earthquake two days ago, after the body of one was found.

The State Codelco Company said that human remains had been found in its copper mine El Teniente, about 70 km (43 miles) south-east of the capital Santiago.

The company says that rescue efforts are continuing. The fate of the other four employees is not clear.

Thursday, the collapse of some of the underground tunnels of the mine was caused by a magnitude tremor of 4.2. Minors trapped at the time worked deeply below the surface.

One person had been killed after the earthquake, with five traps in the mine.

Codelco said the victim found in the mine on Saturday has to be identified, but that families of the five trapped minors had been informed.

“This discovery fills us with sadness, but he also tells us that we are in the right place, that the strategy we followed led us to them,” said El Teniente Director Andres Music in a statement.

The rescue teams used heavy machines in order to clean the blocked passages to try to reach minors.

Mr. Music said the rescuers hoped to take place at a rate of 15-20m (49-66 feet) every 24 hours.

El Teniente is the largest underground copper mine in the world.

It is located high in the mountains of the Andes in central Chile.
