Robin Uthappa reacts to the dismissal of Rohit Sharma as Captain Odi of India

Former striker of India Robin Uthapppa weighed on the Cricket Control Council in India’s decision (BCCI) to submit Shubman gill Captain Odi, replacing Rohit Sharma. Calling the movement “tactically healthy” and “judiciously timed”, Uthappa said that selectors were right to prioritize long -term planning on feeling when India is preparing for the ODI 2027 World Cup.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Uthapppa stressed that the time of the abolition of Rohit Sharma reflects the avant-garde leadership by the chief selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambir.
“He’s going to be 41 when the 2027 World Cup arrives,” Said Uthapppa. “So you have to take this in consideration. It is better to make a difficult decision now when the issues are weak rather than waiting for this to become a more important problem.”
He referred to the past difficulties of India with the selection dilemmas at an advanced stage – in particular the uncertainty concerning veteran players during previous ICC tournaments – arguing that a clear planning can help avoid “uncomfortable situations” for senior cricket players towards the end of their career.
“Rohit is too good player for an uncomfortable outing”: Uthappa
Uthapppa was quick to defend the heritage of Rohit, calling him one of the great leaders of all time in India. “You don’t want something unhappy to happen to a player like Rohit Sharma,” He said. “He is too good to be taken in this kind of situation. Perhaps this decision guarantees that the transitions occur correctly and respectfully.”
The former opener of India recognized that Rohit and Virat Kohli still had a role to play in the configuration of the ODI in India, provided that they remain in shape and motivated. “If Rohit stands in good shape, he will always be part of the side. Uthappa not.

Thinking about the physical requirements of international cricket, Uthappa stressed that even the most apt players faced with the inevitable effects of aging.
“I do not think that the form will delight radically for players like Rohit and Virat”, “ He said. “But these are reflexes and rhythms – these little things imported. They no longer play as much international cricket, so maintaining this sharpness is more difficult when your main games are IPL and limited ODI.”
Rohit and Kohli are now exclusively in the ODI and IPL, a workload designed to manage their longevity, but which also poses challenges to maintain the intensity of the correspondence between formats.
