Russia has launched hundreds of drones and missiles in kyiv and other parts of Ukraine on Sunday, killing at least four people and injuring dozens, in one of the most sustained attacks against the capital since the start of the large -scale war.

The neighboring Poland has closed its airspace near two cities in the southeast and its air force jamming planes in response until the danger has passed.

The army of Ukraine said that Russia had launched 595 drones and 48 missiles overnight and that its air defenses killed 568 drones and 43 missiles. He noted that the main objective of the strike was the kyiv capital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack, which lasted more than 12 hours, damaged a cardiology clinic, factories and residential buildings.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that it had made a “massive” attack against Ukraine using long -term weapons and drones at sea to target military infrastructure, including aerodromes.

Moscow denied having targeted civilians in his war against Ukraine, although thousands were killed and residential areas largely damaged by his attacks.

Zelenskyy urges international partners to act

Zelenskyy again urged the international community to act decisively to reduce the energy income of Russia which finance its invasion. Ukraine has so far failed to convince US President Donald Trump to impose punitive sanctions in Moscow.

“The time for decisive action has been expected for a long time, and we are counting on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7 and the G20,” he said on the Telegram messaging application.

Kyiv woke up with strong explosions, drones flying above and booming aerial defenses. The smoke of one of the striking sites derived through the morning sky while the aerial alert ended at 9:13 am (0613 GMT), almost seven hours after its start.

Reuters journalists visited an area on the suburbs of kyiv, where rows of newly built houses were almost completely destroyed and parked cars flattened by falling debris.

The residents passed through the wreckage of a building after their windows were blown away by the force of an explosion.

Some people were rushing into metro underground stations, from where they followed events on their mobile phones.

The defenses of Ukraine stretched by large -scale attacks

The attacks on such a scale extended the limited aerial defenses of Ukraine throughout 2025. Zelenskyy said on Saturday that an additional patriotic missile system of Israel had been deployed and that it expected that two others arrive this fall.

He and other officials have asked international partners to protect the sky of Ukraine, but air defense systems are limited according to availability and other countries wish to strengthen their defenses in the middle of the perceived threats of Russia.

Zelenskyy said Sunday’s attack was aimed at several regions, including the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, where the authorities said that at least 16 people were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used his speech to the United Nations General Assembly to call on the international community to condemn the aggression of Russia. Meanwhile, American president Donald Trump seemed to change his tone when he declared earlier this week that Ukraine could resume all of his territory with the help of Europe.

Emergency services said that at least four people had been killed, while 67 people were reported injured across the country by local authorities.

Among the deaths, there was a 12 -year -old girl, although it was not officially confirmed, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of kyiv, on Telegram.
