I wanted him to see why I have been moving from place to place for 24 years – Sachin Tendulkar

Speaking about his last match, Sachin Tendulkar said he told the BCCI to play his last Test at Wankhede so that his mother could see why she had moved to different places for 24 years. Speaking on the 50th anniversary of the Wankhede Stadium, he said:

“Before the list was announced, I contacted the BCCI and asked for one thing. I asked that I want my last match to be played in Mumbai for one reason: I have played cricket for many years – 24 years in India, and almost 30 years in all but my mother had never seen me play.

“At that time (during the Farewell Test) my mother was in good health, she could not go anywhere other than Wankhade to watch me play. I wanted them to see why I have been moving to different places for 24 years. The BCCI board very graciously agreed to that request.”

I was a little depressed, my eyes were tearing – Sachin Tendulkar

Speaking about playing the last Test, he said that with the kind of reception he received from the crowd and West Indies, he was moved. He also talked about how the broadcaster played with his emotions by showing pictures of his mother and other members of his emotional family. He added:

“When I came in to bat on the first day, it was at the end of the game. When I came out to bat, the West Indies players were giving me a lot of respect. The crowd gave me a very warm welcome. I was a bowler. My eyes were tearing up, but I had to look at the stadium.

“There was a close frame of my mother. She didn’t realize that she was being shown on the big screen. I was wondering if all these shots were necessary because it was the last six balls of the day. I doubted that all these shots were necessary. The radio operator had a West Indies passport because I thought he favors West Indies He plays with my mind.
