Ukraine and its European allies were supported by Donald Trump’s promise to the White House of security guarantees for kyiv to help put an end to his war with Russia. But the president pointed out on Tuesday that they would not imply American soil troops in a peacekeeping role.

When asked by an interviewer of Fox News if the American commitment would not include “American boots on the ground”, Trump said: “You have my insurance and I am president.”

The statement was not a surprise, but Trump was vague when he asked him similar questions on Monday in the oval office of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“There will be some form of security. It cannot be NATO,” said Trump. “We are ready to help them with things, above all, probably, if you could talk about air.”

Zelenskyy praised the extraordinary summit on Monday at the White House on Monday with the American president and several European leaders as “Pas En Part Majeur” in the end of the deadliest conflict in Europe in 80 years.

Zelenskyy was flanked by leaders of allies, especially in Germany, in France and in Great Britain, at the top, and his warm relationship with Trump contrasts strongly with a disastrous and abridged meeting in February at the White House, where he was reprimanded by the American president and vice-president JD Vance.

The hope out of the summit on Monday was that a trilateral meeting with the Vladimir Putin and Trump of Russia could be organized in the near future. But beyond the optics, the path to peace remains deeply uncertain.

Flurry of Talks continues

The allies of Ukraine organized a series of virtually talks and in person of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” format.

The head of the European Union foreign policy Kaja Kallas said that “unity among EU leaders in the virtual summit today was palpable”. She said the EU would continue to target Russia’s war economy and that the next set of sanctions against Moscow should be ready next month.

Meanwhile, NATO military leaders are expected to meet on Wednesday to discuss Ukraine, officials told Reuters.

Putin warned that Russia would not tolerate NATO alliance troops on Ukrainian soil. He has also shown no sign of reducing territorial requests, including land that is not currently under Russian military control, after the Alaska summit.

Trump said in his Fox News interview that he thought Putin was “tired of (war)” but admitted that he was not clear what the Russian chief would do.

“We will discover President Putin in the next two weeks.

Last week, the American president warned the Russian chief of “serious consequences” if he was not sincere peace talks. But so far, in Trump’s second administration, the United States has not applied additional sanctions in Moscow.

The post-war bonds are taken into account: Anand

Officials from countries not at the top of the White House confirmed on Tuesday the need for continuous support for Ukraine.

“The leaders of Canada, Japan, Turkey, New Zealand and European countries have evaluated the results of the Alaska meeting in a very realistic way,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after a virtual meeting. “We have all confirmed the need for continuous support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.”

During a joint press conference in Finland, with counterparts of so-called Nordic Five, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand said “that there is now an opportunity to end the Russian War in Ukraine”.

“The work that the coalition of the will does now is absolutely fundamental to adding the structure around security guarantees and, in particular, the obligations to which each country adheres,” she said.

We do not know what form that could possibly take for Canada. Addressing CBC News in March, the general in charge of operations abroad and national said that providing ground troops to a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine would be a challenge.

No commitment from the Kremlin on the Putin-Zelenskyy meeting

Although Washington’s talks gave a feeling of temporary relief to kyiv, there was no relaxation. Russia launched 270 drones and 10 missiles in a night attack on Ukraine, Ukrainian Air Force said the most important this month. The Ministry of Energy said that Russia had targeted energy facilities in the Central region of Poltava, which is home to the only oil refinery in Ukraine, causing large fires.

Zelenskyy could be forced to make painful compromises to end the war, which began with the large -scale invasion of Russia in February 2022.

In addition, Russia could drag the war while trying to divert American pressure with prolonged peace negotiation, the Director of International Security of the Royal United Services Institute told Reuters.

Melvin said the leaders seem to be “on tiptoe” around Trump.

“I think that behind that, there is a struggle between Ukraine and Europeans on the one hand, and the Russians on the other, so as not to introduce himself to Trump as the obstacle to his peace process,” said Melvin, adding that on security guarantees, “the problem is that what Trump said is so vague that it is very difficult to take it seriously.”

We to organize a meeting between Putin, Zelenskyy: Trump | Hanomansing tonight

US President Donald Trump says he started organizing a meeting between Russian President Valdimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the details of a peace agreement. This occurs after multilateral talks between Trump, Zelenskyy and European leaders in Washington on Monday.

Russia has made no explicit commitment to a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that Moscow had not rejected any format, but that any meeting of national leaders “was to be prepared with the greatest meticulousness”.

Putin is subject to an international arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court, a court that the United States does not recognize.

French President Emmanuel Macron had previously suggested in Geneva as a possible location for any future meeting which would include Zelenskyy and Putin.

Switzerland is a signatory of the ICC, but the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis told a media there that if Putin had to conclude a peace agreement, he would receive the Russian chief.
