South Korea plans to open the very first residential game treatment center in the country
The very first residential game treatment center should open its doors in South Korea, offering specialized treatment and camps for “problem players”.
Kangwon Land, the Korea Institute for Gambling Problem Prevention and Treatment, and the Forest Healing Foundation joined forces to build a residential game treatment center, offering a space residing to players to request treatment for drug addiction and problems related to the game.
The objective is to provide a space to manage so-called camps, actively approaching the growing social problem of the game in Korea. The three organizations will collaborate to provide specialized processing services to residents, echoing similar treatment centers which are already in place in many other countries, especially in the Western world. Kangwon Land previously became interested in reducing game -related damage, after organizing a drug addiction prevention forum.
Currently, South Korea has only advisory centers in drug addiction, without any residential treatment option. Kangwon Land and La Forest Healing Foundation will bring the accommodation infrastructure of High Healing One, an established wellness center, while Korea Institute for the prevention and treatment of game problems offers expertise in the prevention and rehabilitation program for drug addiction.
The first steps in the treatment of the game
The program will start its first phase of processing options in September 2025, with programs offered to users of the regional center, professional consulting agencies and seven national game industries. The services will include group advice and psychological education and healing activities, such as forest and music, yoga, meditation and therapy for healing tools.
Once the pilot program is underway, Forest Healing Foundation will use it as a case study to obtain professional certifications. The long -term plan is to extend the services it develops to private facilities across the country.
“I feel a feeling of responsibility for the fact that our country, which has already become an advanced country, has no residential treatment to protect its citizens,” said interim president Choi. “I hope that this trade agreement will serve as a starting point to establish a Korean style treatment model for problems with problems, and that Forest Healing Foundation will become the first residential treatment center for problems with problems in Korea.”
